AWF is a non-profit organization with the aim of seeing women participate more fully in the social, cultural, economic and political life of their communities through women mentoring women. The gala on October 4th is its inaugural event and aimed at raising funds to make the mentoring program possible.
Many of us can likely recall how someone mentoring us made a significant difference to our lives. Many women, including new immigrants, single parents, Aboriginal women and women in distress need this type of help. However, the busyness of today’s living makes mentoring difficult to access. AWF wants to create a network of women mentoring women. This gala is to raise funds for this.
You will be treated to the inspiring message of Darci Lang, our keynote speaker and author of “Focus on the 90%”. She won The Saskatchewan Woman Entrepreneur of the Year Award and Achieving Business Excellence (ABEX) Award. She was a finalist in the Canadian Woman of the Year Award and a three-time nominee for the nationally recognized Entrepreneur and Young Entrepreneur of the Year Awards.
The hilarious comedian, Zarqa Nawaz will be our host. Come prepared to laugh till you cry. Zarqa created “The Little Mosque on the Prairies” series, has worked on many CBC programs and Newscasts, and is a frequent contributor to DNTO. She has also written comedy pilots for ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX Networks. She has been featured in many magazines and by CNN, the BBC, The New York Times and Aljazeera. Her new book “Laughing all the way to the Mosque” is hilariously funny.
The feast menu features exotic cuisines from different parts of the world. Other entertainments and dance till midnight (for those who love to dance) round up the evening. Please come prepared to have fun.
Ladies, this is a girl’s night out, so invite and bring along all your girlfriends. Of course, men are also welcomed.
